- Performance Features
- High-speed Transmission: The transmission frequency of Cat 5e Ethernet cable is 100MHz, which can support a transmission rate of 1000Mbps, meeting the needs of Gigabit Ethernet and also being backward compatible with Fast Ethernet.
- Low Attenuation and Crosstalk: By improving the cable twisting process and materials, the twisting density and signal attenuation are optimized, reducing the loss and interference during signal transmission. It has a higher ratio of attenuation to crosstalk (ACR) and signal-to-noise ratio (Structural Return Loss), ensuring the stability and reliability of network signals.
- PoE Power Supply Support: It is perfectly compatible with PoE (802.3af) and PoE+ (802.3at) protocols, capable of powering devices such as APs and cameras while transmitting data, with a maximum power supply of up to 30W, reducing the cost of power wiring.
- Structural Design
- Conductor Material: High-purity oxygen-free copper (OFC) is usually used as the conductor, with a purity of ≥99.5% and a maximum DC resistance of ≤9.5Ω/100m, ensuring stable and efficient signal transmission. The wire diameter is generally the standard 24AWG, i.e., 0.5mm ±0.01, balancing flexibility and durability, making it easy to route through pipes in complex environments.
- Twisting Process: The four pairs of wire cores adopt a differential twist pitch design, with different twisting densities for each pair of twisted pairs, such as a twist pitch of 12mm for the blue-white pair and 15mm for the green-white pair, which greatly reduces signal crosstalk, with a NEXT value of ≤43dB. Meanwhile, the wire cores are wrapped with a high-density PE insulation layer, which is resistant to high temperatures (-20℃~+60℃) and aging, suitable for long-term use.
- Sheath Performance: The exterior is made of high-quality PVC outer sheath, which is flexible and wear-resistant, and has passed the UL flame retardant certification (CMR grade), meeting the needs of indoor safe wiring. Some Cat 5e Ethernet cables also have built-in Kevlar tensile strands as reinforcement cores, with a tensile strength of ≥80N, preventing cable breakage during construction.
- Application Scenarios
- Enterprise Office Networks: It can be used to build Gigabit internal networks, supporting collaborative office work of multiple devices and high-speed access to NAS storage, meeting the data transmission needs of daily enterprise office work.
- Security Monitoring Systems: It is suitable for wiring of PoE-powered surveillance cameras, simplifying the installation process, reducing maintenance costs, and enabling stable transmission of surveillance video data.
- Smart Home and Home Networks: It can achieve whole-home network coverage and connect devices such as smart TVs and game consoles, creating a smooth experience for home users and meeting the data transmission needs between smart home devices.
- Small and Medium-sized Computer Rooms and Data Centers: When used as short-distance jumpers in cabinets, Cat 5e Ethernet cables offer better cost performance than fiber optic solutions, meeting the high-speed data transmission needs between devices in the computer room.
- Comparison with Other Types of Ethernet Cables
- Comparison with Category 5 Ethernet Cables: Category 5 Ethernet cables support a maximum transmission rate of 100Mbps, mainly used for Fast Ethernet. Based on Category 5 cables, Cat 5e cables optimize performance such as twisting density and signal attenuation, increasing the transmission rate to 1000Mbps, with lower attenuation and less crosstalk, better meeting the needs of high-speed data transmission.
- Comparison with Category 6 Ethernet Cables: Category 6 Ethernet cables have a bandwidth of 250MHz, with better transmission performance, outperforming Cat 5e cables in aspects such as crosstalk and return loss, and usually having a cross-shaped skeleton structure with thicker wire cores. However, Cat 5e cables are relatively lower in price, and their FTP design makes wiring more flexible. For scenarios with limited budgets and not extremely high requirements for network performance, Cat 5e cables are a better choice.
